Light and Safety for Hotel Village through solar kits
This project has been made possible by Wilde Ganzen with leftover budget from a previous project.
Hotel Village is situated in the north of Zimbabwe, in the Hurungwe district. We first came into contact with the village in 2015, resulting in the installation of a pump in 2019. This has improved the quality of life significantly. Another important step for the villagers would be acces to electricity. Our contact in Hotel Village, Joel Kasunungure, suggested the purchase of 20 solar kits. One kit provides a household with a solar panel, a battery, a light and other essentials. This allows for having light during the night and charging cell phones – not just for the 20 households with a kit, but for the other villagers as well. Light also provides safety: wild animals, including lions, threaten the village at night. Having lights attached to the outermost huts in the village keeps the beasts at bay. This emphasizes the importance of the solar kits, which Mpilo Foundation would like to finance.
