Edit Template Edit Template Mpilo Foundation was a guest of the NGK Congregatio   On Sunday, 27 October 2024, Mpilo Foundation was a guest of the NGK Congregation in Lelystad. Present on behalf of Mpilo Foundation were Berto Broeksema and Ellen and Albert Nijland. Christine Winter-Broeksema, sister of Berto, was the sermon reader on this (postponed) Micah Sunday. The theme of the Micah Sunday was: ‘Are we seeing? Looking through the eyes of the Maker’. Christine read a short sermon by Lucia Mambure from the Micah Sunday packet. Lucia Mambure is from Zimbabwe. She is married to Davis and with their four sons they live in the capital Harare. One of the sons has cerebral palsy. About him, Lucia wrote the book ‘Walking With My Son’. Lucia is one of Tearfund’s ‘inspired individuals’. Micah Sunday During the annual Micha Sunday, more than a thousand churches in the Netherlands reflect on a theme that touches on justice. Micah Sunday falls on the Sunday closest to World Poverty Day. So this year on 20 October 2024 and next year on 19 October 2025.(https://michanederland.nl/zondag) The NGK Congregation was well represented with over 100 people, including a good number of children. The proceeds of the collection will go to Mpilo Foundation. Immediately after the service, we received the very positive announcement from the OPA (Oud Papier Actie) committee that €500 will be deposited for Mpilo Foundation’s projects. Some private churchgoers also pledged a donation. Mpilo Foundation thanks the NGK Gemeente in Lelystad for the offered support of Mpilo Foundation’s work. And Albert and Ellen will report back in due course on the spending of the proceeds of the collection. Edit Template Edit Template Mpilo Foundation is a guest at the Baptist Church in Hardenberg   On Sunday, 18 August 2024, Mpilo Foundation was a guest of the Baptist Church in Hardenberg. On behalf of Mpilo Foundation, Ellen and Albert Nijland were present. The pastor in the service was Arjan Bijker, a long-time partner of Mpilo Foundation. The theme of the service: water, for now and later. Albert and Ellen, prior to the service, had strategically positioned themselves. Albert by the outside door with a Miracle Water rain barrel and Ellen immediately after entering by two banners of Mpilo Foundation. Miracle Water is a partner of Mpilo Foundation and was set up by Arjan Bijker and Bouwe Bril. Miracle Water is an initiative to sell rain barrels in the Netherlands. From every rain barrel sold, part of the proceeds go to Mpilo Foundation. (https://mpilofoundation.com/partners/) The Baptist congregation was well represented with about 200 people, including a good number of children. Much attention was paid to the children in a children’s service with activities depending on age.   Prior to the collection, Mpilo Foundation’s introductory video was shown. The proceeds of the collection will go to Mpilo Foundation. (Introduction film on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyOdC9J3ifw&) Water was the common thread in Arjan’s story. From personal stories of the family trip to America (Los Angeles and Owens Lake that ran dry after only 9 years) to Biblical stories, including the story of the Samaritan woman, who came to fetch water from a well and met Jesus. Arjan also showed a photo collage of Mpilo Foundation. After the service, many conversations ensued with ‘old acquaintances from the past’ and ‘new acquaintances’. Mpilo Foundation thanks the Baptist Church for the offered support of Mpilo Foundation’s work. And Albert and Ellen will report back in due course on how the proceeds of the collection were spent. At the handover of his practice in De Krim, Dr. André Jansen (66) had something else in mind. The result: enough donations for multiple water wells in Zimbabwe. “This is not a wealthy area. Edit Template Edit Template De Toren: How many water taps do you have at home? People in De Krim, Nieuwe Krim, and Dalerpeel have provided 2000 people in Zimbabwe with access to clean drinking water. Water is Life. After 35 years, Dr. Jansen has handed over his medical practice to Dr. Cox. Instead of personal gifts, he asked those who wanted to thank him to make a donation to the Mpilo Foundation. In gratitude, the people donated €14,500. This means that 2000 people will gain access to sufficient and clean drinking water. Mpilo means life. Mpilo focuses on Zimbabwe, where there is a lack of clean water. Women and children have to walk kilometers to fetch (dirty) water. Mpilo provides villages with clean drinking water by drilling a well (an average of 70 meters deep). All donations go 100% to the people in Zimbabwe. Collecting waste paper for recycling is worthwhile as it is, but donating the proceeds to a good cause makes it even more valuable. We are grateful for the contributions and for all the work the 40 OPA volunteers do.  Recently, Mpilo Foundation was invited to give a presentation on the importance of water and solar energy in Zimbabwe. This gave us an opportunity to emphasise the importance of all contributions, small and large. Afterwards, we were presented with yet another generous amount, allowing us to provide solar energy and water to people who need it. The Winter Fair is a yearly event where enterpreneurs show and sell personal care items, clothing, home accessories and more. Mpilo Foundation was the only Public Benefit Organisation present, and as such a notable contrast. We are happy that some donations and two new contact for possible future collaboration have shown that our presence at the fair was appreciated. We hope to develop the new contacts further. They support people and public benefit organisations with the proceeds of their actions. “This evening, Albert & Ellen Nijland visited us. We were given an engaging presentation, showcasing Mpilo Foundation’s projects, focusing on realising boreholes and solar energy (mostly for schools) in Zimbabwe. It included an interactive slideshow with questions raising awareness. We, as Lions Hardenberg, raised a contribution of €1000,-. The thought of providing someone in Zimbawbe with clean water for only €10,- makes us very happy. We trust that our donation will be put to good use. Hats off to the Foundation and the people involved.” Mpilo Foundation is grateful to Lions Hardenberg for this generous donation, which can provide 100 people with access to clean water.
